Spiritual Direction with Marie

I’m a spiritual director in training at the school of Sustainable Faith scheduled to graduate in 2025.
While in my practicum, I am available as a spiritual mentor. I want to offer my support and presence as you cultivate a deeper awareness of God’s love. Spiritual direction is a gift that has impacted me greatly, and I want the same for you. Let’s journey together as we learn about ourselves, observe the goodness of God around us, and explore what that means for our lives.

Meet Marie Griffith

Spiritual Formation Mentor

Hello, I’m Marie. I’m a writer, teacher, and spiritual director in training. Several years ago, I went through a season of untangling my faith from man-made traditions and came to know Jesus in a new way. As I continue to learn, I guide others in their spiritual formation, help them know themselves and God better, and journey with them through the stages of faith. I do this through spiritual mentorship, writing curriculum, teaching, and collaborating with others who do similar work.

I earned an MA in Christian Spiritual Formation and Leadership from Friends University and paused my work toward an MDiv at Wesley Seminary while I complete my spiritual director training.

Spiritual Direction

As a spiritual director in training I come alongside you as you explore your spirituality. I listen with you as you discover what God is doing in your life, deepen your relationship with him, and discern how he wants you to move forward. I ask questions, listen, and pray with you as you grow in self-awareness and offer ways to cultivate a life of paying attention to God. This may include assessing the unique ways you connect with God or crafting a rhythm of life together. I am a fellow journeyer encouraging you in your journey.

Speaking & Teaching

I teach on a wide range of topics. I’m especially passionate about round table Bible reading and discussion, educating people on the stages of faith, deconstruction (or as I like to put it – untangling), forgiveness, and spiritual formation through struggle.

I’m available to speak at churches, small groups, book clubs, and schools.

What Others Are Saying

“Marie’s love for God and others is very evident. No matter what has been part of our life experiences, she encourages us to see it through the eyes of faith, reminding us that God was and is in every part of it. Her encouragement to journal and write my story resonated within me and I began to journal once again. There was no pressure or judgment in the process which encouraged me to drop my own judgments on my story and how I write.”

Why Spiritual Direction

Spiritual direction is soul care for those embarking on the journey of knowing God and themselves better.
My role as a spiritual director is a companion on the journey to awareness and wholeness.

Marie Griffith

“Spiritual direction is a prayer process in which a person seeking help in cultivating a deeper personal relationship with God meets with another for prayer and conversation that is focused on increasing awareness of God amid life experiences.”

David Benner in Sacred Companions: The Gift of Spiritual Friendship & Direction

“[Spiritual Direction] is the pastoral work that is historically termed the cure (or care) of souls…a Scripture-directed, prayer-shaped care that is devoted to persons singly or in groups …. [It’s] cultivated awareness that God has already seized the initiative.”

Eugene Peterson inThe Contemplative Pastor

“As a spiritual director, I see myself as a companion to people on their journeys. As a companion, I accompany others who become more fully who they have been created to be, sinking their roots deep into the living waters of God’s grace and bearing fruit in the world.”

Susan S. Phillips in Candlelight: Illuminating the Art of Spiritual Direction

“The Spirit is always available to us but we’re frequently not available to the Spirit.”
